Problem Signs/Sewer Pipe Deterioration
PROBLEM SIGN · CHARLOTTE, NC
Sewer Pipe Deterioration in your line — and what it’s really telling you.
Sewer pipe deterioration is the slow failure that most homeowners don't see coming. Clay tile, cast iron, and early PVC all degrade over decades — and when they do, the symptoms are subtle until they aren't. Here is what pipe deterioration means, how to recognize it early, and what LiningWorks does to restore the line.
Free phone consultation. Flat-rate pricing. No upsells, ever.

WHY HOMEOWNERS TRUST US
Why Charlotte homeowners call LiningWorks first about Sewer Pipe Deterioration.
Deterioration is a whole-line assessment, not a spot fix. We camera-inspect from cleanout to tap, grade the pipe condition, and give you an honest picture. Four things set us apart.
Pipe Deterioration assessed by a licensed plumber
NC Plumbing License #16952. Deterioration grading requires a licensed technician who understands pipe materials, age, and failure modes — not just what looks bad on camera.
Pipe Deterioration confirmed by full-line camera
We scope the entire line — not just the section you think is the problem. Deterioration is often distributed across the full run.
Pipe Deterioration repaired at a flat written rate
No per-foot billing surprises. One flat price for the confirmed scope of repair before we start.
Pipe Deterioration addressed trenchlessly in most cases
CIPP lining restores a deteriorating sewer line without excavation — the entire run in a single session.
Sewer Pipe Deterioration warning signs you should never ignore.
Pipe deterioration announces itself gradually. These are the four signs that indicate the line is failing — not just dirty.
Watch for these Sewer Pipe Deterioration warning signs:
Progressive whole-house slow drains over months
Slow drains that worsen slowly across every fixture in the house — not just one — indicate the entire line is narrowing from internal buildup or pipe-wall collapse.
Camera footage showing scale, pitting, or wall thinning
If a camera scope shows orange rust buildup, pitted walls, or sections where the pipe wall appears thin or irregular, the pipe is deteriorating from the inside out.
Recurring root intrusion at the same joint locations
When roots re-enter the same joints every year, those joints are failing. The root is not the problem — the deteriorated joint is.
Home built before 1970 with original cast iron or clay tile
Pre-1970 plumbing in Charlotte was almost exclusively clay tile or cast iron. At 50+ years, these materials are at or past their expected service life and should be assessed.
The most common causes of Sewer Pipe Deterioration in Charlotte homes.
Pipe deterioration in Charlotte homes follows predictable patterns based on pipe material and age.
How Sewer Pipe Deterioration develops:
Cast iron corroding from the interior surface
Hydrogen sulfide gas produced by sewage corrodes cast iron from the inside. Over decades, the pipe wall thins, pits, and eventually cracks or crumbles.
Clay tile joints failing and crumbling
The oakum or mortar holding clay tile joints together deteriorates over 50+ years. As joints crumble, the pipe loses structural integrity and begins to fail at the joint locations.
Root infiltration accelerating deterioration
Roots entering at failed joints pry them further open, introducing more moisture and accelerating the chemical degradation of the surrounding pipe material.
Soil chemistry attacking buried pipe from outside
Charlotte's clay soils can be acidic and chemically active. Pipes in contact with these soils deteriorate faster on the outer surface, especially if the original installation lacked proper bedding.
Sewer Pipe Deterioration fixed: a 1958 Eastover home, whole-line restoration.
Camera revealed heavy internal corrosion and four joint failures across the 62-foot cast-iron run. The homeowners had managed with annual snaking for four years. LiningWorks lined the entire run in one day. No more snaking, no more slow drains.
Once a camera shows deterioration across the whole line, spot repairs are rarely the right answer. Whole-line lining restores full flow, seals every joint, and lasts decades longer than the original pipe.

We had a plumbing emergency around the holiday's and called a local plumbing company. They cleared the line and quoted a pretty high price to dig up my yard and fix the damaged sewer line. The next day I found LiningWorks online and called Jeremiah. He was very helpful and confident they could fix my sewer line without digging. Seemed too good to be true. The lining has been installed, yard not damaged and looks to have resolved the break. Jeremiah even offered to come back and scope it at a later time to ensure it's all good. Highly recommend Lining Works for any situation where you can't or don't want to dig. Thanks guys!

LiningWorks was top notch. We had a sewer main that got damaged and was completely blocked up. They were able to clear the drain, remove all issues, and reline the entire sewer main without cutting out my driveway and yard. And they were able to get the job done in one day. I would and plan to do business these guys again in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

Where do I begin? Let's just say I had an absolute nightmare on my hands for about 5 years with my sewage. I had one company quote me 7k after he snaked my sewage line and from there I just kept snaking it every year. I dreaded the oncoming financial disaster but I bit the bullet and called LiningWorks. BEST home decision of 5 years. Jeremiah came out and tackled this chaos with grace and integrity. He got down to the root of it — after years of money, anxiety, and frustration he found out it was a city problem! I will definitely be calling LiningWorks when my lining needs replacing. Call them now, you will not be disappointed.

I received an estimate and the job did exceed the original estimate. I contacted them about it and they were very understanding and explained why.

The main drain line in our airbnb kept clogging up, filling the house with an awful sewage smell. We had drain cleaners come out to clear the line every couple months but it finally got so bad we had to close off our bookings. LiningWorks were very prompt in coming out. We discovered tree roots had broken up our line. Our sewage line runs under a tree and 6ft deep through our crawlspace so digging it up was going to be a nightmare. Liningworks was able to cut the tree roots out and line the pipe without any digging so that it's as good as new. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing sewage line repair.
