PROBLEM SIGN · CHARLOTTE, NC

Sewer Pipe Cracks in your line — and what they’re really telling you.

A cracked sewer pipe is a problem that gets worse every day you wait. Cracks allow roots to enter, soil to infiltrate, and sewage to leak into the ground around your home. They also let groundwater into the line, which overloads your system. Here is what sewer pipe cracks mean and how LiningWorks fixes them.

CATCH PROBLEMS EARLY

Sewer Pipe Cracks warning signs you should never ignore.

Cracked pipe is not always obvious from indoors. These are the four signs that tell us a crack is likely in the line.

Watch for these Sewer Pipe Cracks warning signs:

  • Sinkholes or soft ground over the sewer line path
Soil entering a cracked pipe creates voids above. The first sign is often soft or sunken ground above the sewer line, not symptoms inside the house.
  • Roots entering the line at the same spot repeatedly
Camera footage that shows roots growing through the same location on every annual scope means there is a crack at that point — roots need an opening to enter.
  • High water bills with no obvious indoor leak
A cracked sewer pipe allows groundwater infiltration, which flows through the meter as additional flow. Unexplained water bill increases can trace to a cracked sewer line.
  • Slow drains that worsen after heavy rainfall
Rain-soaked ground pushes water into cracked pipes. The extra groundwater inflow fills the pipe and slows every drain in the house simultaneously.

COMMON CAUSES

The most common causes of Sewer Pipe Cracks in Charlotte homes.

Sewer pipe cracks in Charlotte almost always trace to one of these four causes.

How Sewer Pipe Cracks develop:

Aging clay tile fracturing under ground load

Clay tile installed before 1960 was never designed to last indefinitely. Decades of ground pressure, freeze-thaw cycles, and soil movement cause it to crack and crumble.

Root pressure widening existing micro-cracks

Hair-thin roots enter micro-cracks in clay tile or cast iron and pry them open wider as the root grows. A hairline crack becomes a structural failure over several seasons.

Ground settlement stressing the pipe at low points

When soil settles unevenly, a rigid pipe must absorb the stress at the weakest point — which is almost always a joint or a corroded section. The result is a crack.

Corrosion eating through cast iron from inside

Cast iron corrodes from the interior surface outward. When corrosion has thinned the pipe wall enough, ordinary flow pressure can crack it.

BEFORE & AFTER

Sewer Pipe Cracks fixed: an Elizabeth home, roots entering at three points.

Annual camera scopes kept showing roots re-entering at the same three locations. LiningWorks confirmed cracks at each point, lined the full 58-foot run in one day. The cracks are sealed, the entry points eliminated. No roots on the follow-up scope six months later.

Pulling roots out of a cracked pipe is temporary. Lining the crack is permanent. One camera scope, one lining session, problem solved.

We had a plumbing emergency around the holiday's and called a local plumbing company. They cleared the line and quoted a pretty high price to dig up my yard and fix the damaged sewer line. The next day I found LiningWorks online and called Jeremiah. He was very helpful and confident they could fix my sewer line without digging. Seemed too good to be true. The lining has been installed, yard not damaged and looks to have resolved the break. Jeremiah even offered to come back and scope it at a later time to ensure it's all good. Highly recommend Lining Works for any situation where you can't or don't want to dig. Thanks guys!

LiningWorks was top notch. We had a sewer main that got damaged and was completely blocked up. They were able to clear the drain, remove all issues, and reline the entire sewer main without cutting out my driveway and yard. And they were able to get the job done in one day. I would and plan to do business these guys again in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

Where do I begin? Let's just say I had an absolute nightmare on my hands for about 5 years with my sewage. I had one company quote me 7k after he snaked my sewage line and from there I just kept snaking it every year. I dreaded the oncoming financial disaster but I bit the bullet and called LiningWorks. BEST home decision of 5 years. Jeremiah came out and tackled this chaos with grace and integrity. He got down to the root of it — after years of money, anxiety, and frustration he found out it was a city problem! I will definitely be calling LiningWorks when my lining needs replacing. Call them now, you will not be disappointed.

I am very happy with the work that was done and the clean up after the job was done. Jeremiah and Ralph are very professional and skilled in their craft. I received an estimate and the job did exceed the original estimate. I contacted them about it and they were very understanding and explained why.

The main drain line in our airbnb kept clogging up, filling the house with an awful sewage smell. We had drain cleaners come out to clear the line every couple months but it finally got so bad we had to close off our bookings. LiningWorks were very prompt in coming out. We discovered tree roots had broken up our line. Our sewage line runs under a tree and 6ft deep through our crawlspace so digging it up was going to be a nightmare. Liningworks was able to cut the tree roots out and line the pipe without any digging so that it's as good as new. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing sewage line repair.
