Problem Signs/Sewer Pipe Corrosion
PROBLEM SIGN · CHARLOTTE, NC
Sewer Pipe Corrosion in your line — and what it’s really telling you.
Sewer pipe corrosion is not a future problem — it is an active one. Cast iron corrodes from the inside out, and by the time the symptoms show up in your drains, the pipe wall may already be compromised. Here is what sewer pipe corrosion means, how to catch it early, and how LiningWorks restores the line without excavation.
Free phone consultation. Flat-rate pricing. No upsells, ever.

WHY HOMEOWNERS TRUST US
Why Charlotte homeowners call LiningWorks first about Sewer Pipe Corrosion.
Corrosion assessment requires a camera — there is no other reliable way to see the pipe wall condition. We scope, show you the footage, quote flat, and line the pipe. Four things set us apart.
Pipe Corrosion assessed by a licensed plumber
NC Plumbing License #16952. Corrosion grading requires a licensed technician who can distinguish heavy scale from structural wall thinning on camera.
Pipe Corrosion confirmed by sewer camera
We see the actual pipe wall condition — pitting, rust buildup, wall thinning, perforation — before we quote any repair.
Pipe Corrosion repaired at a flat written rate
No hourly charges. One flat price for the confirmed corrosion repair before work begins.
Pipe Corrosion addressed trenchlessly
CIPP lining rehabilitates a corroded sewer pipe from inside the existing pipe — no trenching, no concrete breaking, no yard disruption.
Sewer Pipe Corrosion warning signs you should never ignore.
Corrosion in a sewer pipe usually telegraphs itself before the pipe actually fails. Here are the four signs that mean it is time to look at the pipe wall.
Watch for these Sewer Pipe Corrosion warning signs:
Whole-house slow drains in a home with cast-iron plumbing
Cast iron narrows as it corrodes. Rust scale and tuberculation (iron deposits) reduce the pipe bore over decades. Whole-house slow drains in an older home are a corrosion flag.
Black or rust-colored water after a long absence
If water runs orange or black after the house has been vacant, corroded cast iron is releasing scale into the water supply. This is a pipe-wall condition indicator.
Recurring root intrusion in a cast-iron line
Cast iron does not have joints roots can enter easily — but a corroded section can develop cracks and perforations that roots exploit. Recurring roots in cast iron usually mean corrosion.
Sewage smell with no visible backup
A corroded pipe wall that has perforated releases sewer gas into the soil and sometimes back into the home without a visible backup. The smell is the only symptom.
The most common causes of Sewer Pipe Corrosion in Charlotte homes.
Cast-iron corrosion in Charlotte follows three primary mechanisms. Here is what we see on camera.
How Sewer Pipe Corrosion develops:
Hydrogen sulfide gas attacking the pipe crown
Anaerobic bacteria in sewage produce hydrogen sulfide gas, which attacks the upper pipe wall where it is not submerged. Over decades, the crown corrodes through while the invert appears intact.
Tuberculation reducing the pipe bore
Iron corrosion products build up on the pipe interior as rough mounds (tuberculation). These mounds snag debris, accelerate buildup, and narrow the pipe bore significantly over time.
As cast iron corrodes through, the perforations become root entry points. What looks like a root problem on camera often has a corrosion origin that opened the door.
Soil chemistry accelerating exterior corrosion
Acidic or chemically active soils corrode the outside of the pipe simultaneously with the internal chemical attack. The two-sided corrosion shortens pipe life significantly.
Sewer Pipe Corrosion fixed: a 1962 Myers Park home, full corrosion restoration.
Camera revealed heavy tuberculation reducing the pipe bore by roughly 40% and three crown perforations across the 54-foot cast-iron run. The homeowners had been living with slow drains and occasional odors for years. LiningWorks lined the entire run in one day.
Corroded cast iron is not patched — it is lined. CIPP creates a structurally independent pipe inside the corroded shell. No more corrosion, no more slow drains, no more odors. One visit, permanent fix.

We had a plumbing emergency around the holiday's and called a local plumbing company. They cleared the line and quoted a pretty high price to dig up my yard and fix the damaged sewer line. The next day I found LiningWorks online and called Jeremiah. He was very helpful and confident they could fix my sewer line without digging. Seemed too good to be true. The lining has been installed, yard not damaged and looks to have resolved the break. Jeremiah even offered to come back and scope it at a later time to ensure it's all good. Highly recommend Lining Works for any situation where you can't or don't want to dig. Thanks guys!

LiningWorks was top notch. We had a sewer main that got damaged and was completely blocked up. They were able to clear the drain, remove all issues, and reline the entire sewer main without cutting out my driveway and yard. And they were able to get the job done in one day. I would and plan to do business these guys again in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

Where do I begin? Let's just say I had an absolute nightmare on my hands for about 5 years with my sewage. I had one company quote me 7k after he snaked my sewage line and from there I just kept snaking it every year. I dreaded the oncoming financial disaster but I bit the bullet and called LiningWorks. BEST home decision of 5 years. Jeremiah came out and tackled this chaos with grace and integrity. He got down to the root of it — after years of money, anxiety, and frustration he found out it was a city problem! I will definitely be calling LiningWorks when my lining needs replacing. Call them now, you will not be disappointed.

I received an estimate and the job did exceed the original estimate. I contacted them about it and they were very understanding and explained why.

The main drain line in our airbnb kept clogging up, filling the house with an awful sewage smell. We had drain cleaners come out to clear the line every couple months but it finally got so bad we had to close off our bookings. LiningWorks were very prompt in coming out. We discovered tree roots had broken up our line. Our sewage line runs under a tree and 6ft deep through our crawlspace so digging it up was going to be a nightmare. Liningworks was able to cut the tree roots out and line the pipe without any digging so that it's as good as new. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing sewage line repair.
