PROBLEM SIGN · CHARLOTTE, NC

Pipe Sagging in your sewer line — and what it’s really telling you.

A sagging sewer pipe — also called a belly — is one of the most misunderstood problems in residential plumbing. The line looks intact on the outside, but a sunken section traps waste, causes recurring slow drains, and sets the stage for a full backup. Here is what pipe sagging means and how LiningWorks handles it.

WHY HOMEOWNERS TRUST US

Why Charlotte homeowners call LiningWorks first about Pipe Sagging.

Pipe sagging is only visible on camera — which is why it goes undiagnosed for years. We confirm the belly, show it to you on screen, and give you an honest repair option. Four things set us apart.

Pipe Sagging diagnosed by a licensed plumber

NC Plumbing License #16952. Belly assessment requires a licensed technician who can read camera footage and grade severity — not every sag needs the same fix.

Pipe Sagging confirmed by sewer camera

A belly is invisible from above ground. A sewer camera is the only way to confirm it, measure the grade, and determine the right repair.

Pipe Sagging fixed at a flat written rate

No hourly charges for camera time or exploratory work. One flat price for the confirmed repair before we start.

Pipe Sagging addressed trenchlessly when possible

Many bellies can be lined in place to prevent further solids accumulation without any excavation.

CATCH PROBLEMS EARLY

Pipe Sagging warning signs you should never ignore.

A pipe belly does not announce itself — it builds slowly. These are the four signs that indicate a sagging pipe is affecting your system.

Watch for these Pipe Sagging warning signs:

  • Recurring slow drains that snaking clears only temporarily
If snaking restores drain speed but the problem returns within days or weeks, a belly is accumulating waste faster than snaking can keep up.
  • Slow drains paired with occasional gurgling
A belly that is partially full of standing waste creates an air restriction. Gurgling as water passes over the low point is a reliable belly indicator.
  • Multiple slow fixtures with no obvious blockage upstream
When the camera shows clear pipe but drains still run slow, the problem is below — a grade issue in the main line creating a belly that is not yet fully blocked.
  • Recurring toilet paper and solids blockages
Solids that normally flush away accumulate at the low point of a belly. This turns a minor grade issue into a recurring, worsening backup problem over time.

COMMON CAUSES

The most common causes of Pipe Sagging in Charlotte homes.

Pipe bellies almost always trace to one of these four causes in Charlotte-area homes.

How Pipe Sagging develops:

Soil settlement after original installation

Pipes installed without proper bedding or compaction sink over time. The pipe follows the soil, creating a low point that traps waste.

Ground movement from tree roots or drought

Root growth and seasonal soil shrinkage both shift the ground beneath sewer pipes. A pipe supported well at installation can develop a belly after years of movement.

Aging pipe losing structural rigidity

Clay tile and older PVC soften or crack at joints over decades. Once structural integrity is lost, gravity pulls the pipe into a belly between support points.

Root infiltration at joints exacerbating the sag

Roots entering a pipe at a joint can lever the pipe slightly, creating or deepening an existing belly at that junction.

BEFORE & AFTER

Pipe Sagging fixed: a Belmont home, recurring slow drains for three years.

Three years of recurring slow drains and two snake jobs per year. LiningWorks scoped the line and found a 14-inch belly at 29 feet from the cleanout — enough to pool two inches of standing water. We lined the section and sealed the adjacent joint. Drains have been clear since.

Pipe bellies are nearly impossible to diagnose without a camera. Once we confirmed it, the repair was straightforward. One scope, one lined section, three years of slow drains resolved.

We had a plumbing emergency around the holiday's and called a local plumbing company. They cleared the line and quoted a pretty high price to dig up my yard and fix the damaged sewer line. The next day I found LiningWorks online and called Jeremiah. He was very helpful and confident they could fix my sewer line without digging. Seemed too good to be true. The lining has been installed, yard not damaged and looks to have resolved the break. Jeremiah even offered to come back and scope it at a later time to ensure it's all good. Highly recommend Lining Works for any situation where you can't or don't want to dig. Thanks guys!

LiningWorks was top notch. We had a sewer main that got damaged and was completely blocked up. They were able to clear the drain, remove all issues, and reline the entire sewer main without cutting out my driveway and yard. And they were able to get the job done in one day. I would and plan to do business these guys again in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

Where do I begin? Let's just say I had an absolute nightmare on my hands for about 5 years with my sewage. I had one company quote me 7k after he snaked my sewage line and from there I just kept snaking it every year. I dreaded the oncoming financial disaster but I bit the bullet and called LiningWorks. BEST home decision of 5 years. Jeremiah came out and tackled this chaos with grace and integrity. He got down to the root of it — after years of money, anxiety, and frustration he found out it was a city problem! I will definitely be calling LiningWorks when my lining needs replacing. Call them now, you will not be disappointed.

I am very happy with the work that was done and the clean up after the job was done. Jeremiah and Ralph are very professional and skilled in their craft. I received an estimate and the job did exceed the original estimate. I contacted them about it and they were very understanding and explained why.

The main drain line in our airbnb kept clogging up, filling the house with an awful sewage smell. We had drain cleaners come out to clear the line every couple months but it finally got so bad we had to close off our bookings. LiningWorks were very prompt in coming out. We discovered tree roots had broken up our line. Our sewage line runs under a tree and 6ft deep through our crawlspace so digging it up was going to be a nightmare. Liningworks was able to cut the tree roots out and line the pipe without any digging so that it's as good as new. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing sewage line repair.
