PROBLEM SIGN · CHARLOTTE, NC

Cracked Sewer Pipe in your home — and what it’s really telling you.

A cracked sewer pipe does not wait — it gets worse with every flush. Cracks admit tree roots, let sewage leak into the soil, and allow groundwater in during rain events. Left unaddressed, a crack becomes a collapse. Here is what a cracked sewer pipe means and how LiningWorks seals it permanently.

CATCH PROBLEMS EARLY

Cracked Sewer Pipe warning signs you should never ignore.

A cracked sewer pipe often shows symptoms before it fully fails. Here are the four signs that mean check the pipe.

Watch for these Cracked Sewer Pipe warning signs:

  • Soft or wet ground above the sewer line path
A crack in a sewer pipe leaks sewage into the surrounding soil. Wet or spongy ground above the line path — especially when it has not rained — points to a cracked pipe below.
  • Unusually lush grass in a line across the yard
Sewage leaking from a crack acts as fertilizer. A strip of unusually green or fast-growing grass above the sewer line path is a classic cracked pipe indicator.
  • Roots appearing in the camera scope at the same spot annually
If camera scopes show roots entering the same location year after year, there is a crack at that point. The root is not the problem — the crack that lets it in is.
  • Slow drains that worsen after heavy rainfall
Groundwater infiltrating through a cracked pipe adds to the flow the pipe must carry. After a heavy rain, that extra volume slows every drain in the home.

COMMON CAUSES

The most common causes of Cracked Sewer Pipe in Charlotte homes.

Cracked sewer pipes in Charlotte almost always trace to one of these four causes.

How a Cracked Sewer Pipe develops:

Age and brittleness in clay tile or cast iron

Clay tile and cast iron become progressively brittle over 50+ years. Ground movement, freeze-thaw, or simple age stress can crack a pipe that was structurally sound at installation.

Root pressure prying at pipe joints

Tree roots exert enormous pressure as they grow. A root wedged into a hairline joint crack pries it open season by season until the pipe wall itself fractures.

Soil settlement creating bending stress

Uneven soil settlement puts the pipe under bending stress at the point where the soil level changes. The pipe cracks at the stress concentration — often at or near a joint.

Internal corrosion thinning the pipe wall

A pipe wall thinned by decades of internal corrosion can crack under ordinary ground pressure that the original full-thickness pipe would have easily resisted.

BEFORE & AFTER

Cracked Sewer Pipe fixed: a Sedgefield home, roots and lush grass.

The homeowner noticed a bright green strip of grass running from the house to the street. LiningWorks scoped and found three cracks — two where roots were entering and one where the pipe wall had fractured under ground load. We lined the full 48-foot run the same day.

Lush grass and root intrusion at the same spot are nearly always a cracked pipe underneath. One camera scope confirmed it. One lining session sealed every crack permanently.

We had a plumbing emergency around the holiday's and called a local plumbing company. They cleared the line and quoted a pretty high price to dig up my yard and fix the damaged sewer line. The next day I found LiningWorks online and called Jeremiah. He was very helpful and confident they could fix my sewer line without digging. Seemed too good to be true. The lining has been installed, yard not damaged and looks to have resolved the break. Jeremiah even offered to come back and scope it at a later time to ensure it's all good. Highly recommend Lining Works for any situation where you can't or don't want to dig. Thanks guys!

LiningWorks was top notch. We had a sewer main that got damaged and was completely blocked up. They were able to clear the drain, remove all issues, and reline the entire sewer main without cutting out my driveway and yard. And they were able to get the job done in one day. I would and plan to do business these guys again in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

Where do I begin? Let's just say I had an absolute nightmare on my hands for about 5 years with my sewage. I had one company quote me 7k after he snaked my sewage line and from there I just kept snaking it every year. I dreaded the oncoming financial disaster but I bit the bullet and called LiningWorks. BEST home decision of 5 years. Jeremiah came out and tackled this chaos with grace and integrity. He got down to the root of it — after years of money, anxiety, and frustration he found out it was a city problem! I will definitely be calling LiningWorks when my lining needs replacing. Call them now, you will not be disappointed.

I am very happy with the work that was done and the clean up after the job was done. Jeremiah and Ralph are very professional and skilled in their craft. I received an estimate and the job did exceed the original estimate. I contacted them about it and they were very understanding and explained why.

The main drain line in our airbnb kept clogging up, filling the house with an awful sewage smell. We had drain cleaners come out to clear the line every couple months but it finally got so bad we had to close off our bookings. LiningWorks were very prompt in coming out. We discovered tree roots had broken up our line. Our sewage line runs under a tree and 6ft deep through our crawlspace so digging it up was going to be a nightmare. Liningworks was able to cut the tree roots out and line the pipe without any digging so that it's as good as new. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing sewage line repair.
