Foul Odors in your home — and what your sewer line is trying to tell you.
Foul odors that smell like rotten eggs, sewage, or sulfur are never just a nuisance — they are a warning. When sewer gas escapes into your living space, it means your drain system has a breach somewhere. LiningWorks finds it with a camera, quotes a flat rate, and fixes it without digging up your yard.
Free phone consultation. Flat-rate pricing. No upsells, ever.

WHY HOMEOWNERS TRUST US
Why Charlotte homeowners call LiningWorks first about Foul Odors.
We treat foul odors the same way we treat a full sewer collapse — diagnose with a camera, quote a flat rate, fix it trenchlessly. Four things make our foul-odor calls different from every other plumber in Charlotte.
Foul Odors diagnosed by a licensed plumber
NC Plumbing License #16952. Every foul odor call is handled by a licensed technician — not a dispatcher guessing over the phone.
Foul Odors traced with sewer camera technology
Before we quote anything, we run a camera through the line so you can see exactly where the sewer gas is escaping — with your own eyes.
Foul Odors fixed at a flat, written rate
No hourly billing while a tech "investigates." One flat price in writing before we touch anything.
Foul Odors repaired without demolishing your home
Most sewer gas sources can be sealed or relined from a cleanout — no torn-up floors, no broken tile, no open trenches.
Foul odors are how a failing pipe announces itself before it causes a full backup or structural damage. Here are the four patterns we treat as an urgent call.
Watch for these Foul Odors warning signs:
Foul Odors stronger after rain or humid weather
Rain raises the water table and pressurizes your sewer line. If foul odors spike after a storm, a cracked pipe or failed joint is letting gas through.
Foul Odors in the basement or crawlspace only
Ground-level sewer gas without above-floor symptoms usually means a cracked lateral below the slab or a joint that has separated — both fixable with CIPP lining.
Foul Odors with no visible sewage or backup
Gas escapes long before liquid does. Foul odors without any backup are the early warning — catch them now before you are mopping up a floor drain overflow.
Foul Odors that return after pouring water in drains
If a floor drain or infrequently used fixture dry-traps and sends foul odors back up, the trap is evaporating. If the odor persists after refilling, the breach is deeper in the line.
The most common causes of Foul Odors in Charlotte homes.
We have run cameras down hundreds of foul-odor calls in Charlotte. The source almost always traces back to one of four conditions — each with a clear, honest fix.
How Foul Odors develop:
Cracked pipe walls leaking Foul Odors into the soil
A longitudinal crack in a clay-tile or cast-iron pipe lets sewer gas seep into the surrounding soil and eventually into your foundation. CIPP lining seals it without excavation.
Root intrusions opening joints and releasing Foul Odors
Tree roots enter pipe joints and crack them further as they grow. Every new crack is a new escape point for sewer gas. Root removal plus lining closes the leak for good.
Pipe belly trapping waste and generating Foul Odors
A low spot in the line traps standing wastewater that decomposes and generates hydrogen sulfide gas. The foul odors will keep returning until the belly is addressed.
Corroded cast iron releasing scale Foul Odors
Decades-old cast iron corrodes from the inside, and the scale deposits harbor anaerobic bacteria that produce persistent sulfur foul odors — even with no visible crack.
A Dilworth Charlotte homeowner had persistent sewage foul odors in the basement for eight months. Two plumbers had replaced the wax ring and checked the vent stack. Our camera found a 6-inch longitudinal crack in the cast-iron lateral at 18 feet — invisible from above. CIPP lining sealed the crack in one day.
Almost every foul-odor repair we run in Charlotte follows the same path: scope the full line, find the breach, quote a flat rate, line it. One visit, one price, foul odors eliminated.

We had a plumbing emergency around the holiday's and called a local plumbing company. They cleared the line and quoted a pretty high price to dig up my yard and fix the damaged sewer line. The next day I found LiningWorks online and called Jeremiah. He was very helpful and confident they could fix my sewer line without digging. Seemed too good to be true. The lining has been installed, yard not damaged and looks to have resolved the break. Jeremiah even offered to come back and scope it at a later time to ensure it's all good. Highly recommend Lining Works for any situation where you can't or don't want to dig. Thanks guys!

LiningWorks was top notch. We had a sewer main that got damaged and was completely blocked up. They were able to clear the drain, remove all issues, and reline the entire sewer main without cutting out my driveway and yard. And they were able to get the job done in one day. I would and plan to do business these guys again in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

Where do I begin? Let's just say I had an absolute nightmare on my hands for about 5 years with my sewage. I had one company quote me 7k after he snaked my sewage line and from there I just kept snaking it every year. I dreaded the oncoming financial disaster but I bit the bullet and called LiningWorks. BEST home decision of 5 years. Jeremiah came out and tackled this chaos with grace and integrity. He got down to the root of it — after years of money, anxiety, and frustration he found out it was a city problem! I will definitely be calling LiningWorks when my lining needs replacing. Call them now, you will not be disappointed.

I am very happy with the work that was done and the clean up after the job was done. Jeremiah and Ralph are very professional and skilled in their craft. I received an estimate and the job did exceed the original estimate. I contacted them about it and they were very understanding and explained why.

The main drain line in our airbnb kept clogging up, filling the house with an awful sewage smell. We had drain cleaners come out to clear the line every couple months but it finally got so bad we had to close off our bookings. LiningWorks were very prompt in coming out. We discovered tree roots had broken up our line. Our sewage line runs under a tree and 6ft deep through our crawlspace so digging it up was going to be a nightmare. Liningworks was able to cut the tree roots out and line the pipe without any digging so that it's as good as new. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing sewage line repair.
