Problem Signs/Clogged Sewer Line
PROBLEM SIGN · CHARLOTTE, NC
Clogged Sewer Line — why it happens and how to fix it without digging.
A clogged sewer line is the most disruptive plumbing problem a homeowner faces. When the main lateral is blocked, every toilet, sink, and shower in the house backs up — and nothing works until the line is clear. LiningWorks finds the clog with a camera, clears it with the right equipment, and fixes the underlying cause so it does not come back.
Free phone consultation. Flat-rate pricing. No upsells, ever.
We'll call you back within one business hour. No automated systems.
WHY HOMEOWNERS TRUST US
Why Charlotte homeowners call LiningWorks first about Clogged Sewer Line.
A clogged sewer line is not a job for a general plumber with a snake and a prayer. It requires a camera inspection, the right clearing method, and a plan to prevent the clog from returning. That is the LiningWorks approach.
Clogged Sewer Line diagnosed by a licensed plumber
NC Plumbing License #16952. Every clogged sewer line call is handled by a licensed technician from first camera pass to final verification.
Clogged Sewer Line identified precisely on camera
Before we quote a price or touch the line, we camera it from cleanout to city tap. You see the clog — its location, size, and type — on screen.
Clogged Sewer Line cleared at a flat, written rate
No hourly billing, no equipment surcharges. One flat price covers camera inspection, clearing, and re-verification.
Clogged Sewer Line cleared through the cleanout, no digging
Whether the clog needs jetting, root cutting, or lining, we work through the existing cleanout. No excavation required in most cases.
Clogged Sewer Line warning signs you should never ignore.
A clogged sewer line sends clear warning signs before the full backup. These four patterns mean your main lateral is approaching a complete blockage.
Watch for these Clogged Sewer Line warning signs:
Clogged Sewer Line backing up multiple fixtures at once
When two or more fixtures back up simultaneously — toilet, tub, kitchen sink — the clog is in the main sewer line, not a branch. This is the clearest diagnostic sign.
Clogged Sewer Line causing water in floor drain when toilet flushes
Water appearing in a basement floor drain when you flush means the main line is nearly blocked and water is finding the lowest exit point. Call immediately.
Clogged Sewer Line after heavy rainfall
Rain-driven surcharges in the city main can push flow backward through a partially clogged sewer line, creating backup symptoms that clear when rain stops. The clog is still there afterward.
Clogged Sewer Line after snaking that quickly recurs
If a snake cleared your main line but the clog is back within days or weeks, the cause — roots, grease mass, or pipe belly — is still in the line. A camera inspection finds it.
The most common causes of Clogged Sewer Line in Charlotte homes.
Every clogged sewer line has a specific cause we can identify on camera. Here are the four most common ones we find in Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem laterals.
How Clogged Sewer Line develop:
Root mass creating a Clogged Sewer Line
Root intrusion is the #1 cause of clogged sewer lines in Charlotte neighborhoods with mature tree canopy. Root masses catch debris and grow until flow stops entirely.
Grease-and-wipes mass creating a Clogged Sewer Line
Fats, oils, and “flushable” wipes combine into a dense plug in the main lateral — especially at elbows and downhill sections where flow slows. This clogged sewer line type responds to hydro jetting.
Pipe belly trapping debris and causing a Clogged Sewer Line
A belly in the lateral fills with debris over years. When the accumulation reaches the pipe bore diameter, flow stops. Bellies require lining to fix — snaking only temporarily disturbs the pile.
Collapsed pipe section causing a Clogged Sewer Line
A structurally failed pipe section — cracked across the bore or shifted at a joint — blocks flow entirely. Camera inspection identifies it; CIPP lining or spot repair restores it.
A Ballantyne homeowner had a clogged sewer line every six months for two years. Previous plumbers cleared it by snaking. Our camera found a 60% root mass at 34 feet and a grease accumulation at the 45-degree elbow at 48 feet. Hydro jetting cleared both, and CIPP lining closed the root entry points. The sewer line has been clear for 14 months.
A clogged sewer line that recurs is always a sign that the cause has not been treated — only the symptom. Camera inspection plus lining is the permanent answer.
A real LiningWorks main-line clearing job — from camera inspection through verified liner installation. The same process we use on every clogged sewer line call in the Charlotte area.

We had a plumbing emergency around the holiday's and called a local plumbing company. They cleared the line and quoted a pretty high price to dig up my yard and fix the damaged sewer line. The next day I found LiningWorks online and called Jeremiah. He was very helpful and confident they could fix my sewer line without digging. Seemed too good to be true. The lining has been installed, yard not damaged and looks to have resolved the break. Jeremiah even offered to come back and scope it at a later time to ensure it's all good. Highly recommend Lining Works for any situation where you can't or don't want to dig. Thanks guys!

LiningWorks was top notch. We had a sewer main that got damaged and was completely blocked up. They were able to clear the drain, remove all issues, and reline the entire sewer main without cutting out my driveway and yard. And they were able to get the job done in one day. I would and plan to do business these guys again in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

Where do I begin? Let's just say I had an absolute nightmare on my hands for about 5 years with my sewage. I had one company quote me 7k after he snaked my sewage line and from there I just kept snaking it every year. I dreaded the oncoming financial disaster but I bit the bullet and called LiningWorks. BEST home decision of 5 years. Jeremiah came out and tackled this chaos with grace and integrity. He got down to the root of it — after years of money, anxiety, and frustration he found out it was a city problem! I will definitely be calling LiningWorks when my lining needs replacing. Call them now, you will not be disappointed.

I am very happy with the work that was done and the clean up after the job was done. Jeremiah and Ralph are very professional and skilled in their craft. I received an estimate and the job did exceed the original estimate. I contacted them about it and they were very understanding and explained why.

The main drain line in our airbnb kept clogging up, filling the house with an awful sewage smell. We had drain cleaners come out to clear the line every couple months but it finally got so bad we had to close off our bookings. LiningWorks were very prompt in coming out. We discovered tree roots had broken up our line. Our sewage line runs under a tree and 6ft deep through our crawlspace so digging it up was going to be a nightmare. Liningworks was able to cut the tree roots out and line the pipe without any digging so that it's as good as new. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing sewage line repair.
