PROBLEM SIGN · CHARLOTTE, NC
Collapsed Drain — what it means and what to do next.
A collapsed drain pipe causes sudden, complete blockage with no warning. When a snake can’t clear the line and nothing moves at all, a collapsed drain pipe is often the reason. LiningWorks confirms a collapsed drain on camera and offers trenchless lining or targeted repair — without unnecessary excavation.
Free phone consultation. Flat-rate pricing. No upsells, ever.
We'll call you back within one business hour. No automated systems.
WHY HOMEOWNERS TRUST US
Why Charlotte homeowners call LiningWorks first for a Collapsed Drain.
A collapsed drain is serious, but it doesn’t automatically mean full excavation. Camera inspection confirms the scope and gives you real options. Four things make our collapsed drain response different.
Licensed crew diagnoses your Collapsed Drain
NC Plumbing License #16952. A collapsed drain diagnosis requires a licensed technician with camera equipment — not a guess based on a snake that won’t pass.
Camera confirms the Collapsed Drain location and scope
Before we recommend any repair, we run an HD camera to the collapse point. You see exactly where the pipe failed and how severe it is.
Flat-rate pricing after Collapsed Drain diagnosis
Camera inspection is quoted upfront. Repair options — trenchless liner, spot repair, or excavation — are quoted flat-rate after the camera confirms the scope.
Collapsed Drain options before defaulting to excavation
Many collapsed drain repairs are addressable with a trenchless liner or a targeted spot repair — without digging up your yard or breaking concrete.
A collapsed drain is one of the few drain problems that announces itself clearly. These four symptoms together almost always mean camera inspection is the right first step.
Collapsed Drain warning signs:
Complete drain stoppage with no flow at any fixture
When nothing drains — not slowly, not partially, but not at all — the blockage is either a complete impaction or a pipe collapse. Camera inspection is the only way to confirm which.
Snake cable won’t pass more than a few feet into the line
A snake that hits a hard stop before reaching the expected blockage location usually means a structural failure — the cable can’t get past a collapsed section.
Sudden loss of drainage in a home with previously normal drains
Collapse-caused drain failures are often sudden. A line that worked yesterday and is completely blocked today is more likely a collapse than a gradual buildup.
Soft or sunken ground directly above the drain run
If a collapsed drain has been leaking into the surrounding soil, the ground above it may sink or feel soft. This is an urgent signal — the failure is causing soil erosion.
The most common causes of Collapsed Drain pipe in Charlotte.
Drain pipe collapse does not happen randomly. These four causes account for the majority of collapsed drain failures we find on camera in Charlotte.
What causes a Collapsed Drain:
Tree root intrusion weakening pipe until Collapsed Drain
Roots that enter a clay-tile joint eventually exert enough lateral pressure to fracture and collapse the pipe section. Older clay-tile systems in Charlotte are the most at-risk.
Corrosion causing Collapsed Drain in older cast iron
Cast-iron drain pipe that has corroded through its wall thickness becomes structurally unsound and can collapse under soil or traffic load without any prior slow-drain warning.
Soil settlement causing Collapsed Drain from pipe movement
Significant ground movement — from drought-swell cycles, tree removal, or nearby construction — can shift a pipe section beyond its flex tolerance, causing a joint separation or collapse.
Age-related failure causing Collapsed Drain in clay tile
Clay-tile drain systems installed before the 1970s have a finite service life. Sections that have spalled, cracked through, or experienced multiple root intrusions are at high risk of collapse.
Collapsed Drain, repaired: a Belmont home clay-tile failure.
A Belmont homeowner called with a complete drain stoppage that a snake could not clear. The camera confirmed a clay-tile collapsed drain at 31 feet, caused by root-weakened pipe finally giving way under the concrete driveway.
We lined the full lateral from the cleanout to the city tap, including the collapsed section. No excavation of the driveway required. Post-lining camera verified every joint. One flat price, one visit.

We had a plumbing emergency around the holiday's and called a local plumbing company. They cleared the line and quoted a pretty high price to dig up my yard and fix the damaged sewer line. The next day I found LiningWorks online and called Jeremiah. He was very helpful and confident they could fix my sewer line without digging. Seemed too good to be true. The lining has been installed, yard not damaged and looks to have resolved the break. Jeremiah even offered to come back and scope it at a later time to ensure it's all good. Highly recommend Lining Works for any situation where you can't or don't want to dig. Thanks guys!

LiningWorks was top notch. We had a sewer main that got damaged and was completely blocked up. They were able to clear the drain, remove all issues, and reline the entire sewer main without cutting out my driveway and yard. And they were able to get the job done in one day. I would and plan to do business these guys again in the future and would highly recommend them to others.

Where do I begin? Let's just say I had an absolute nightmare on my hands for about 5 years with my sewage. I had one company quote me 7k after he snaked my sewage line and from there I just kept snaking it every year. I dreaded the oncoming financial disaster but I bit the bullet and called LiningWorks. BEST home decision of 5 years. Jeremiah came out and tackled this chaos with grace and integrity. He got down to the root of it — after years of money, anxiety, and frustration he found out it was a city problem! I will definitely be calling LiningWorks when my lining needs replacing. Call them now, you will not be disappointed.

I am very happy with the work that was done and the clean up after the job was done. Jeremiah and Ralph are very professional and skilled in their craft. I received an estimate and the job did exceed the original estimate. I contacted them about it and they were very understanding and explained why.

Lining Works was excellent to work with. They were perfectly professional. They were organized, efficient, and friendly throughout the whole process. They took time to answer all of our questions. Pipe lining is an incredible option and the team at Lining Works couldn't have been better. They were also transparent, honest, and consistent with their cost/pricing. We couldn't be happier. We feel very fortunate that we found Lining Works. Great guys!

The main drain line in our airbnb kept clogging up, filling the house with an awful sewage smell. We had drain cleaners come out to clear the line every couple months but it finally got so bad we had to close off our bookings. LiningWorks were very prompt in coming out. We discovered tree roots had broken up our line. Our sewage line runs under a tree and 6ft deep through our crawlspace so digging it up was going to be a nightmare. Liningworks was able to cut the tree roots out and line the pipe without any digging so that it's as good as new. Would definitely recommend them to anyone needing sewage line repair.
