"Our sewer had collapsed completely. LiningWorks said CIPP wasn't possible and Pipe Bursting was the right call. They were in and out in a day with two small pits. I was honestly amazed nothing more was disturbed."
CHARLOTTE · GREENSBORO · WINSTON-SALEM
Pipe Bursting replace your sewer line without opening the ground.
LiningWorks pulls a hydraulic bursting head through your failed sewer pipe, shatters it outward, and simultaneously installs a new HDPE pipe in its place, start to finish, with just two small access pits.

WHAT IT IS
What Pipe Bursting actually does to your sewer line.
Pipe Bursting is a trenchless replacement method that destroys the old pipe and installs a new one simultaneously. A hydraulic bursting head, larger in diameter than the existing pipe, is pulled through the host line. As it travels, it fractures the old pipe outward into the surrounding soil while a new HDPE pipe follows directly behind.
The result is a complete sewer line replacement with no trench, no demolished concrete, and no disturbed landscaping except for two small access pits: one at the cleanout end and one at the connection point. Those pits are typically 18 inches square.
Pipe Bursting is the method of choice when CIPP lining isn't viable: collapsed sections, pipes too deteriorated to hold a liner, or lines that need to be upsized in diameter. The new HDPE pipe is rated for 100+ years, is root-resistant, and has no joints for roots to exploit.
Every LiningWorks Pipe Bursting job begins with a full camera inspection and pipe-locating run to map the line depth, route, and existing diameter. The replacement pipe is sized before the truck arrives.

CATCH PROBLEMS EARLY
Sewer line failures Pipe Bursting solves completely.
These are the four scenarios where Pipe Bursting is the right call over CIPP lining. If your line checks one of these boxes, Pipe Bursting is likely what your sewer needs.
- Collapsed pipe sections: Pipe Bursting replaces them cleanlyA fully collapsed pipe can't hold a CIPP liner. Pipe Bursting shatters the collapsed section outward and pulls the new pipe through in a single pass.
- Root-destroyed lines that are too far gone to lineWhen roots have filled an entire section and the pipe wall is gone, Pipe Bursting replaces the run with seamless HDPE that roots cannot re-enter.
- Undersized pipes that need diameter upsizingPipe Bursting can upsize the new pipe one or two nominal sizes over the host line, increasing flow capacity as it replaces.
- Repeated failures after snaking and hydro jettingIf the same line keeps backing up within weeks of cleaning, structural failure is the cause. Pipe Bursting replaces the cause permanently.
HOW THE SERVICE WORKS
How our Pipe Bursting works, step by step.
A LiningWorks Pipe Bursting job typically takes one day from access pit excavation to backfill. The new HDPE pipe is pressure-tested and camera-verified before we leave.
1. Camera inspection and pipe locating map the full run
2. Access pits opened at each end of the replacement run
3. Bursting head pulled through: old pipe shattered, new pipe follows
4. New HDPE pipe pressure-tested and camera-verified
